Sun makes history with biggest ever AFL deal

Gold Coast Suns young star Mac Andrew has officially signed the biggest deal in the history of Australian Rules Football.
As revealed exclusively by 9News Melbourne’s Tom Morris, Andrew signed a $12 million deal that will span over nine years, at the Suns.
He has shut off other offers from rivals clubs, namely Victorian power house Collingwood.

“My understanding is that Andrew has agreed to a nine-year $12 million deal that will expire at the end of 2034,” Morris said on 9News Melbourne on Wednesday.
“All that is remaining is for Andrew to sign on the dotted line and for the AFL to approve the deal.”

But that money won’t start streaming in just yet, Morris confirmed.
“Although the Suns have shuffled his money for next season, the deal really begins in 2026,” he said.
The 20-year-old will also need to reach a certain number of games by the end of the 2030 season, to open up the rest of his contract.

“If he hits a games trigger by the end of 2030, the will trigger another four years,” Morris said.
Andrew spoke candidly about his commitment to the Suns.
“I love everything about this place. I’ve made a home for myself up here and have a great support base here,” Andrew said via a club statement on Wednesday night.
“I’m really keen to be a part of the first team that wins a premiership on the Coast. To be the first to do that would be pretty special and something I really want to be a part of.

“It’s pretty evident we are heading in the right direction and I just want to play my role in what will be something great.
“I don’t want to take my career for granted, I really want to make the most of it and grab every opportunity with both hands.”
The deal, if it reaches 2034, will go two years beyond Port Adelaide skipper Connor Rozee, Western Bulldogs forward Aaron Naughton and Giants defender Sam Taylor.
Andrew is currently signed with the Suns until the end of the 2025 season.
